Warmth

Just like us, cats are mammals and they just love sleeping in places that are warm. Where better to get some warmth than a bed with a fine thick blanket and a fellow mammal to help heat things up faster than you bed?

Considering cats sleep for long periods during the day they can’t afford to have their bodies generate all the heat so they will piggy back on what your body produces or on any other external source of heat. During the day, the sun might help things warm a bit but at night, you’re the best option to warm night.

It’s comfortable

There’s a reason why you have that plush mattress, fine pillows and cotton sheets. Not because you can’t sleep without them but because you want to be comfortable as you sleep. It so happens that you’re not the only one who loves comfort. Cats love it too and they want some of that action. Having you close by just seals the deal for them.

It is secure

Remember how you used to find comfort when sleeping with your parents as a child? It always felt more comfortable and safer there than in your own room. Cats have very sensitive instincts and they are always ready to move, pounce, run or hide depending on the threat. Sleeping next to you gives them that feel of safety and they don’t have to jolt as much. With you around, they know they are safe and they can finally take some much needed rest through the night.

Love

This is going to make it harder for you to throw your furry friend out in the middle of the night but it’s true. Your cat loves you and she tries her best to show you affection. Even though there are times they would rather be alone, there are also times when all she wants to do is spend some quality time with you, sleep next to you, relax as she listens to the rhythm of your heartbeat and cozy up to your warm body.

Your scent

Whether it is sharing your bed with you or just sleeping in it when you’re not around, your scent has a lot to do with why your cat loves it. It is a source of comfort and security and knowing you’re around is relaxing to them.

So, Should I share My Bed with My Cat?

After such heartwarming reasons, you might be considering letting your cat sleep in after all. But, there are positives and negatives to that.

Positives

• Both you and the cat can help heat up the bed faster especially on those chilly nights.
• It is a great way to release stress especially when she starts kneading you with her tiny paws.
• It gives you some time to bond and spend more time with your cat.

Negatives

• Cats are always about and most of the time, their paws are dirty and they will bring the dirt to bed
• Cats are nocturnal. You will have to put up with constant movement as she goes to roam around the house and hunt an imaginary mouse then come back to bed. It happens quite often.
• If you have allergies or Asthma, sleeping with your cat can trigger them.
